My Howl: Oct 11 - 17

Wednesday
Bernie Sanders was the clear winner in the first debate among candidates for the Democratic Party's presidential nomination. And it wasn’t because he is more “likable” than the front-runner, Hillary Clinton. He won because he is more honest. - Aljazeera America

Sunday

Life is still unsettled. I have been relying on my friends kindness to allow my continued couch surfing, is taking a toll on me and my running has paid the price too. I do not have any good news to report in regards to my home search yet. A few close calls have disappointed me but I continue. I am confident that things will work out eventually. Until then, I remain in limbo.

MyHowl - September 27 - October 3

Friday

Thursday
I wish I knew what my old boxer, Ramone, dreamed about...

Tuesday
What is it going to be?

Monday
This is good for a few laughs... as you know, the truth always is:

Sunday
I really dig The Bottle Rockets. Fantastic songs that traverse themes that illustrate beauty and American despair; songs like Welfare Music and cops shooting down drivers with their Radar Guns, etc... here is a gentle acoustic song about a guy who really loves his dog.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------:----------------------------------

The good: for the first time since I moved back to Colorado, I was able to run the day after a big mountain run with a strong down hill. The bad: I had nothing today.

strong and steady
Wed - Run - 7.9 mi - 1:06:27 - 8:24 pace - 123 avg hr - 286' elevation gain
Steady easy recovery run
Tues Run - 8.18 mi 1:03:03 - 7:42 pace - 142 avg hr - 285' elevation gain
First 4 mi tempo, then 800 x 800 meters hard/easy

Mon Run - 7.15 mi - 1:01:36 - 8:36 pace -146 avg hr - 236' elevation gain
I wonder if The Google knows how I can clear my chest of this phloem reservoir.

Sun Run - 7.88 mi - 1:12:24 - 9.11 pace - 143 avg hr - 400' elevation gain
I am still battling this chest cold. I am tired and run down.

MyHowl - September 20 - 26

Friday
I love this lady. Take 2 minutes to watch this video and you will get it:

Thursday
I am relieved that despite my continued illness (phloem hacking attacks, muscle soreness, chills, etc), I got out the door and managed a good 8.1 mile run in on the Rio Grande trail.
Wednesday
Man I am really down today. First, I am tired and wrecked physically from running down-mountain and being sick. Second, I do not have any idea about where I am going to live yet. I am in a void.
Monday

Sunday
My training has really suffered this month. I may have set a record for rest days without an injury. This cross-country move to Colorado has taken a lot out of me (I am still homeless too); and now I have a chest cold that is wiping me out. I have hopes to get back on track in life and training matters.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Training this week: Run 41.24 - Bike 0 (2 rest days)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------:----------------------------------

Sat Run - 10.16 mi - 1:50:03 - 10:49 pace - 144 avg hr - 1,727' elevation gain
Great trail run with a lot of elevation gain today; with Julia.

Fri Run - 8.1 mi - 1:06:38 - 8:13 pace - 145 avg hr - 344' elevation gain
Started pretty strong but faded. I think that I may be turning the corner on this awful chest cold.
Thu Run - 8.1 mi - 1:04:25 - 7:57 pace - 143 avg hr
Despite my continued chest cold and tired legs, I managed a decent run in the flats today.
Wed Rest
Sore and sick

Tues Rest
sore and sick

Mon Run - 9.75 mi - 3:07:17 - 19:12 pace - 125 avg hr - 3,400' elevation gain
Trying to kick my lingering cold - ran to the top of Ajax Mountain and down the Ute Trail.

Sun Run - 5.13 mi - 44:10 - 8:36 pace
So sick with this chest cold; my whole body protested this run. I pretty much forced myself to do it after 2 consecutive rest days.

Last week: run 38.67 mi - bike 0 (2 rest days)

last month run 281.55 mi (1 rest day)  - bike 0

-

run yr: 2,204.7 mi

MyHowl - September 13 - 19

Sunday
I guess I am wiped out physically and my health is barking at me now. Back to back rest days to try to get over this chest cold (coughing phloem, tired an sore); I have missed 10 of 20 days of training this week. Bums me out.
Saturday
Tired, sick and sick of being homeless
Friday

Pink Floyd - a great band with and a great band after Syd Barrett.
Wednesday
A rough 4 wheel drive trip but worth it. The Crystal Mill - Crystal, CO.

Tuesday
As the media bashes/ignores Bernie, it is up to the American people to learn the facts.

Monday
Feel the Bern - at a beach near you.

Sunday

The good, I am loving being back in Colorado. It was a long drive from South Florida, but I am settling in an I know moving back makes sense. The bad, my training has suffered. Last week was basically a rest week as I really didn't get any training in, save yesterday - the only day that I found time to run. I will be happy to settle into a new place and find some normalcy. I am uneasy but thankful for the couch that I am currently sleeping on. Hopefully some positive news will be heard this week in regards to the tiny house that I found in Leadville. Regardless, my intentions are to not let my training continue to suffer.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Training this week: Run 38.67 - Bike 0 (0 rest days)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sat Rest
Sick and tired

Fri Rest
Sick

Thur Run - 7.59 mi - 1:08:05 - 8:58 pace - 131 avg hr - 375' elevation gain
Very difficult on my way out. Steady 12 -15 mph head winds.
Wed Run - 8.27 mi - 1:09:34 - 824 pace - 132 avg hr - 288' elevation gain
I didn't get out until after dinner; but I did get my ass out the door
Tues Run - 8.41 mi - 1:09:50 - 8:18 pace - 132 avg hr - 357' elevation gain
took it off the mountain and ran mostly in the flats
Mo Run - 6.3 mi - 1999' elevation gain - 1:26:00 -13:39 pace
Steep rocky trail and a lot of elevation gain today - run/walk
Sun Run - 8.1 mi - 1:04:37 - 7:58 pace
I must be adapting to the Colorado hills. Despite pounding the downhill of Smuggler yesterday, I could run today. Previously, the hills won mandating multiple days off. Yeah.

Last week: run 7.78 mi - bike 0 (6 rest days)

last month run 281.55 mi (1 rest day)  - bike 0

-

run yr: 2,163.46

MyHowl September 6 - 12

Friday
I am rested. My intention is to run easy today and get the training going again. After two episodes of quad pain and missed workouts due to my aggressive downhill running, I am committed to keeping my routes flat for a while. I have missed a LOT of running days over the last month and this stupidity has to stop. It is time to train smart

Wednesday
My quads hurt like Quad-zilla attacked them. I could run if I wanted to crawl but the value would be negligible at best. I suppose that the added rest will benefit other tired or aching bits that I haven't noticed. I really do not like rest days.

-
Driving to Denver today, I hope to see Nico and Mo while I am there. My living situation is still uncertain but I have hope.

Monday - Labor Day
To the American workers: thank you.
-
I do not know when I will learn, but over the last 30 days I have been to Colorado twice. When I used to live hear, I ran the hills all of the time and with no issues. Unfortunately, on both trips I promptly went for hard up and down mountain trail runs and on both occasions I have wrecked my quads. This has caused me to miss a lot of training. I need to get settled and adapt. I am excited, albeit a bit disappointed in myself.

Sunday
Colorado beauty is everywhere. I'm in Basalt on the FryingPan River exploring with my buddy, Danny. When I lived in this state before (Denver, Ft. Collins, Vail and Aspen), I took natures wonder for granted. Now that I have returned, I will embrace it.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Training this week: Run 7.78 - Bike 0 (6 rest days)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sat - Run - 1:15:05 - 7.78 mi - 9:39 pace - 1230' of elevation gain - 143 avg hr
I wasn't going to do it, but I did it again. I have had to Colorado mountain running disasters. I simply am not used to running these hills since I came here from Florida. Twice now, I have destroyed my quads. This time basically eliminating my ability to run for most of the week. Anyway, I simply cannot learn. I love the hills. Today's run was up Smuggler Mountain in Aspen. I am hoping that my quads adjust to the pounding and tomorrow I will be okay to run. Yeah, that is the pan anyway.
Fri - Rest
Thur - Rest
Wed - Rest
Tues - Rest
Mon - Rest
Sun Run - Rest
My quads are destroyed from yesterdays run up and down Ajax Mountain.

Last week: run 43.59 mi - bike 0 (3 rest days)

last month run 281.55 mi (1 rest day)  - bike 0

MyHowl August 30 - September 5

Wednesday
I am still looking for a place to live in the high Rockies, I found a tiny house in Leadville... but it is complicated. My fingers are crossed.

Sunday
Denver is awesome!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Training this week: Run 43.59 - Bike 0 (3 rest days)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sat Run - 10.1 mi - 2:43:15 - 16:10 pace - 125 avg hr - 3,300 feet of elevation gain
I ran to the top of Ajax Mtn via the Ute trail and back down (Aspen, CO)

Fri Run - 15.25 mi - 2:10:00 - 8:31 pace - 127 avg hr
I am in Basalt Colorado. I wanted to do an easy 8 miles to get going again. I got lost and ended up running a total of 15 miles. D'oh! Living and running as a traumatic brain injury survivor is awesome but sometimes complicated.
Thurs rest
drove from Denver to Basalt and just didn't have the running spirit. Tired from all of the driving this week.
Wed Run 10.11 - 7:41 pace 142 avg hr
I am in awe. Again, I ran in Denver at a good pace for a long distance and I didn't bring Gatorade or water. In Florida this would be impossible.
Tue
Tues Rest House Shopping in Leadville
Drove to Leadville to shop for a 'tiny house'
Mon Rest - Travel day
